GambiesGambies
We've chosen Gambies as the next woman owned company to highlight on the blog. This wonderful company from Bath, Maine is owned and operated by Margarte Jane Conover. She produces a wonderful, hand printed and 100% cotton, hooded gown that can be worn from infancy through toddlerhood, which is whi it's one of our go-to babygifts in the store. Gambies will keep your little one warm and cozy for many years; Just take out the bottom drawstring once the baby turns 3 month, and it can be worn as a cover-up/sweatshirt for many years to come.
We hope you'll check out this wonderful company the next time you visit G.Willikers!

Eeboo

In honor of women's history month, we wil be featuring several of our favorite women owned and/or operated businesses on the blog over the next few weeks.

Today we start with one of our favorite toy companies; eeBoo !

Eeboo; Tot Tower: EeBoo's Animal Tot Tower. A longtime favoriteEeboo; Tot Tower: EeBoo's Animal Tot Tower. A longtime favorite

This wonderful company was started about 18 years ago by President and Creative Director, Mia Galison. Eeboo toys and games have always been a favorite at G.Willikers! Their bright and colorful designs appeal to kids of all ages, and their un-official slogan "get down on the floor and play (with your kids)" shines through in all their designs. While we love the company's commitment to working only with small stores, what appeals to us even more is they have continually offered an assortment of well-made, interactive, educational toys for $25 or less (with most of their line well below $20).

Eeboo toys encourage imaginative play. They don't interact with your child, but let your child explore their own imagination and interact with the world around them. For example; a ballerina spinner game encourages dress up, a community game lets them see their own community and environment through new eyes, and the art supplies lets kids discover and explore the beauty of the world around them as well as their own imaginary world. There's no question why they are such a popular brand!

To learn more about this wonderful company and it's owner, read this article. We think you'll end up loving them as much as we do!

If you're interested in some great and free craft ideas, make sure you check out the Eeboo Blog

Support the (H)EAT fund through One Dime at a Time

At G.Willikers! we are commited to our local community and one of the ways we contribute is by cutting back on our use of bags.

In an effort to be conscious of our environment we encourage customers to go Bag Free by donating a dime each time through our One Dime at a Time program. Each month we choose a different charity to donate to, and this month we will once again donate to the Seacoast Local's (H)EAT Fund. Each year, from Nov 1 through March 1 the members of this local organization, through support from their customers, raise funds for food and fuel assistance to provide "Ten Thousand Meals, Ten Thousand Gallons" to people in need on the Maine and New Hampshire Seacoast.

For 35 years, the seacoast community has supported our little toy shop and we feel privileged to be able to give a little back through donations of time, merchandise and money!

Thank You Seacoast Science Center!

We'd like to thank the Seacoast Science Center for being our Partner in Play for the month of June!

From our "Under the Sea" Store front window, to our G.Willikers! After Hours Event and storytime at the Science Center, we had "Oceans of Fun"!

I especially loved reading Herman the Hermit Crab to an enthusiastic group of Science Center Campers and visitors. We sang a hermit crab song, pretended we were hermit crabs with our Bilibo Chair shells and saw live hermit crabs!

We donated the Science Center a check for $50.00 which came from 10% of sales from their G.Willikers! After Hours, and $30.00 from our "save a bag" initiative. G.Willikers donates 10 cents to a local "green" fund whenever our customers choose not to take a plastic bag. That means that during the month of June together we saved 300 plastic bags from going into the environment! That's nothing to be "crabby" about!

This July we will be welcoming Izzy's Ice Cream shop as our next "Partner in Play!

To Celebrate our 30th birthday, we started a fun new initiative called Partners in Play

Each month this year we have partnered with other Seacoast businesses and non-profits to celebrate our connections to this great community. It's hard to believe we're half way through the year!

We've had so much fun joining with these groups in a whole host of ways. We've partnered up for game days, story times, fundraisers and more. We have also found creative ways to do marketing and advertising together.

Our Market Street Partners in Play window has received lots of attention, and it has been great to collaborate and see how each new partnership designs the window. It's a true testament to the value of sharing resources and ideas.
